Srecko on the river Ljubljanica

January 24th, 2014

Friend of Dynamite Srecko Karadzic lives just a short distance from the river Ljubljanica in Slovenia and has shared with us his experiences on this water…

“The river Ljubljanica runs through the capital city of Slovenia – Ljubljana, hence where it’s name comes from. I live about a kilometer away from the river and having grown up close to it this is where I first began fishing.

There are no fishing lakes around Ljubljana so the river remains the only spot I can fish during the week. In the winter I try to spend a few hours fishing every day and attempt to catch some of the fish that I know inhabit this river. The Ljubljanica is a small river but with quite a strong current and lots of different fish species. Barbel and chub are most common but you can also catch trout, pike, catfish and carp.

Despite knowing this river very well it still takes a lot of patience and will to catch one of the carp. Last year I did manage to catch some lovely carp here in November and December and back in 2007  I caught the river record with 18,2 kg. I also came very close to this record in November 2013 when I caught a common weighing 17,4 kg (above – right).

The river is rich with natural food which is why the carp are so hard to convince into taking the bait. I caught most of my carp on the Crave boilie (15mm & 20mm) last year and I have to say they proved to be amazing.”
